Hydrafacial Owner Appoints New CEO

Hydrafacial owner The Beauty Health Company named Pedro Malha, previously of pharmaceutical giant Abbott Laboratories, its new chief executive on Tuesday. Malha succeeds CEO Marla Beck, with the appointment effective as of Oct. 1.

In a statement, board chairman Brent Saunders described Malha as “an accomplished leader with broad industry experience at leading multinational companies in the healthcare and medical device sectors.” At Abbott Laboratories, Malha led the neuromodulation division, which develops treatments for chronic pain and Parkinson’s disease.

The Beauty Health Company was originally founded as The Hydrafacial Company in 1997 based on its flagship spa treatment technology. In 2021, it joined with Vesper Healthcare Acquisitions to create a portfolio of clinical technologies that also include the scalp treatment Keravive and microneedling pen Skinstylus.

Beck, who joined Beauty Health as interim CEO in Nov. 2023, will continue to serve on the company’s board of directors. Beck is an entrepreneur best known for founding the specialty beauty retailer Bluemercury, and its m-61 private range of skincare.

“I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together,” said Beck in the release, “and I believe now is the right time to welcome a new CEO to lead the company into its next phase of growth.”
