Former Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder and his wife, Tanya, made headlines in May 2024 when they donated their French chateau–style mansion along the Potomac River to the American Cancer Society. Known as the Estate at River’s Edge, the 13.5-acre property marked the largest real estate gift in the nonprofit’s 110-year history. Now, the palatial pad is headed to auction, giving buyers a chance to own one of Maryland’s most opulent homes while supporting cancer research and patient programs.
Global luxury auction firm Concierge Auctions is managing the sale in partnership with Compass agents Cara Pearlman and Han Peruzzi. Bidding opens December 5 and runs through December 18 at the Pendry West Manhattan in New York City as part of Concierge Auctions’ End-of-Year Global Sale. The home is listed for $24.9 million, with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. Concierge Auctions will also contribute an additional half a percent of the final hammer price to further support the organization’s mission.

“The charitable component is certainly additional motivation for buyers who are not just heightened to the opportunity that this property and auction presents, but also by its impact, knowing their purchase will also support a national organization as meaningful as the American Cancer Society and its mission,” Chad Roffers, CEO and co-founder of Concierge Auctions, tells Robb Report.
From its hilltop perch overlooking the Potomac, the Estate at River’s Edge spans more than 40,000 square feet across three buildings. Designed by architect John Ike, now a partner at Ike Baker Velten, and built in 2004 by Horizon Builders, the main house covers 25,000 square feet with five bedrooms and a dozen bathrooms. Interiors by Geoffrey Bradfieldcombine traditional French details with modern amenities, including a grand double-height reception hall, limestone fireplace, commercial-grade kitchen, library, theater, billiards room, and a primary suite with dual baths and automated dressing rooms.
The property’s landscaped gardens include a heated pool and loggia and a full-size basketball and sports court. An 11-bay carriage house with a guest apartment, along with a 4,500-square-foot staff house, rounds out the magnificent estate.

Snyder bought the original parcel from Jordan’s King Hussein and Queen Noor in 2000 for $8.6 million, later acquiring six adjacent lots. After years on and off the market—including at $49 million in 2023—the couple ultimately chose to donate the home to the American Cancer Society.
Tanya, a cancer survivor and former national spokeswoman for the NFL’s breast cancer awareness campaign, Crucial Catch, has long supported cancer-related causes and was previously recognized by ACS as Mother of the Year.
