These Are The 10 Most Reliable AWD Luxury SUVs In 2025

In today’s SUV market, it is not always a given that an SUV is available with all-wheel drive, even though it is becoming more common. A feature that is very handy if you like a bit of adventure or live in a wet part of the country. A lot of mainstream or work-rated SUVs are likely to be equipped with four-wheel drive, while it is the luxury SUV market that is more likely to benefit from all-wheel drive.

We love our SUVs to be comfortable, plush, hardy, and useful, but unfortunately, for some fancy iterations, that is not always the case. Some have the high-end credentials but not the reliability. Take the Range Rover Sport; it has a RepairPal reliability score of 2.5 out of 5. However, there are some luxury models available in 2025 that are moving in the right direction in terms of dependability and boast pretty much everything we want. We are taking a look at the best luxury SUVs in 2025 that boast both all-wheel drive and impressive reliability ratings.

The models in this list have been extensively researched to ensure the most accurate information possible as of the time of publishing. Models are listed in ascending order from least to most reliable.

2025 Audi Q7

J.D. Power Reliability & Quality Rating: 66/100

All models of this year’s Audi Q7 come equipped with Quattro all-wheel drive as standard. So from the off, it is very sure-footed in the wet and loose stuff. The cabin boasts premium materials; you get a 10.1-inch touchscreen as standard, air suspension is available on the higher trims, and a HUD is optional. All in all, it is as Audi as you’d expect in the cabin, and with the most powerful engine kicking out 500 horsepower under the hood of the top-trim 2025 SQ7, you can get a bit of everything you want from a luxury SUV.

German brands have a long and difficult history with dependability and high maintenance costs. However, considering its breeding, the 2025 Audi Q7 does not do terribly for reliability. According to owner reviews on J.D. Power, the AWD Audi Q7 is rated 66 out of 100 for quality and reliability, while owner ratings on Kelley Blue Book echo these decent sentiments with a reliability score of 4.4 out of 5. We know that is not particularly high compared to the likes of some Toyota SUVs, but the Q7 is a bit of a beast in terms of capability, and it is very plush in the cabin.

Boasting a starting price of just under $59,000, the 2025 Volvo XC90 brings a lot of sensible, refined, and intuitive luxury SUV goodness to the market at a reasonably low starting price. There are three main trim options for this year’s Volvo XC90: the Core, the Plus, and the Ultimate, with two engine options. You can choose between a 2.0-liter mild-hybrid inline-four good for 247 horsepower or a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four good for 295 horsepower. Both engine options are mated to an eight-speed auto box and an eAWD rig as standard. The all-wheel drive system in the XC90 is front-biased to eke out the best fuel economy, but when needed, the system can send up to 65% of the available torque to the rear wheels to provide more traction.

Considering its luxury status, the XC90 is rated relatively highly for reliability, with the above J.D. Power rating edging closer towards 70 out of 100 than the Audi Q7. Owner reviews on KBB rate it lower, though, with a 4 out of 5 reliability rating. Yearly maintenance costs (below) are reasonable, though they are still more expensive than the average luxury mid-sized SUV monitored by RepairPal ($807 per year). In terms of reliability, RepairPal has given the XC90 a rating of 3.5 out of 5, and says that it equals both unscheduled garage visit frequency and repair severity for the luxury SUV segment, at 0.6 times a year and 11% respectively.

The 2025 Acura MDX is very reasonably priced for its class, with prices starting at around $51,000. It is available in six trims: the base trim (MDX), the MDX Technology Package, the MDX A-Spec, the MDX Advance, the MDX A-Spec Advance, and the Type S, with starting prices topping out at around $79,000. Unlike some of the other AWD luxury SUVs on our list, the Acura MDX does not come with all-wheel drive as standard; that configuration is front-wheel drive, and you have to opt for AWD on the lower trims. The higher trims (A-Spec and above) all come equipped with a very handy rig, though: Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD), which provides a very stable and nimble feel behind the wheel.

“Unlike other midsize three-row SUVs that constantly feel top-heavy and not particularly athletic, the MDX always feels light on its feet, nimble, agile, and always well-glued to the tarmac.”

Being the luxury arm of the famously bulletproof Honda certainly has its perks, and in the MDX’s case, the main perk would be reliability. Owners have rated it highly on both J.D. Power and Kelley Blue Book (4.3 out of 5 for quality and 4.5 out of 5 for reliability). RepairPal says that the MDX boasts yearly maintenance costs lower than both the luxury SUV market and the whole mainstream market ($652 per year for maintenance for all other vehicles in the mainstream market). They have also said that the likelihood of a needed repair being severe is a low 8% compared to the luxury SUV market’s average probability of 11%.

This year’s Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV blends comfort, style, available power, and usability, so it is effectively everything you could want in a luxury SUV. Starting prices are high at around $62,000 for the base trim (GLE 350), but even that is well-equipped with dual 12.3-inch MBUX touchscreens and a 255-horsepower inline-four under the hood. As you go up the trims, from the GLE 450 to the AMG GLE 63 S, you get power outputs ranging from 375 horsepower to a fire-breathing 603 horsepower, and more in the way of luxury. For the higher trims, air suspension, a Burmester audio rig, and more premium or sporty touches are available as well. However, with top-end starting prices of around $95,000 before you get to AMG territory, it is a huge amount of money for one.

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV does a grand job at bucking the already-mentioned German-reliability trend with a very respectable 80 out of 100 for reliability on J.D. Power. Where the GLE Class SUV does not buck the trend is in yearly costs. According to RepairPal, the average yearly maintenance bill is nearly $1,200; we can blame expensive parts and typically higher labor costs for that. Where the 2025 GLE SUV does particularly well, even compared to some of the more typically reliable luxury SUVs, is that there is only one NHTSA recall for it; the rearview mirror may detach.

Combining an aggressive exterior design, seating for up to five people, a maximum cargo capacity of 72.3 cubic feet, and powerful engine options (375 horsepower to 617 horsepower), the 2025 BMW X5 can be seen as an all-around package. Alongside the high reliability score on J.D. Power, the BMW X5 also receives a high overall rating of 80 out of 100, which includes a driving experience rating of 83 out of 100. We can see why: the X5 comes equipped as standard with selectable drive modes (ECO PRO, COMFORT, and SPORT), while the M models are available with the most powerful engine choices and features such as Active Roll Stabilization, Adaptive M Suspension, and an M Sport Differential. You can either go for gentle luxury from the base trim or intense action from the high-end X5 M60i and M Competition models.

Like some of the other German SUVs on our list, BMW X5 repair and maintenance bills are high (both long-term and short-term). However, the X5 has been very highly rated by owners on Kelley Blue Book, who have given the 2025 BMW X5 an overall rating of 4.3 out of 5. This includes a rating of 4.4 out of 5 for both reliability and quality. The NHTSA has yet to release information on the 2025 model, but track record in the last year for the X5 has not been stellar, with seven recalls for the 2024 MY.

Available from $50,475 for the base trim, the 2025 Lexus RX combines a techy cabin, comfortable seating, and obtainable prices for the luxury segment; the high reliability rating is just the topper. The Lexus RX comes equipped with front-wheel drive as standard in the base trim, so you have to opt for the AWD option, but all other trims are all-wheel drive as standard. With the rear seats folded away, the RX boasts a maximum cargo capacity of 59.2 cubic feet, and the cabin comes equipped with a 9.8-inch touchscreen, wireless phone connectivity, dual-zone climate control, eight-way power-adjustable front seats, and the Lexus Safety+ 3.0 safety suite. On top of its sleek exterior, the RX delivers solid performance, with output ranging from 275 horsepower in the base 2.4-liter turbo-four to 366 horsepower from the 2.4-liter turbo-hybrid in the RX500h.

Like Acura has backing from Honda, Lexus has its own bulletproof Japanese parent company: Toyota. Alongside the impressive owner-rated dependability scores, RepairPal says that the Lexus RX has a 4 out of 5 reliability score and low annual maintenance costs (which are still below the mainstream vehicle market, as mentioned above), while CarEdge says that it will only cost you, on average, just shy of $7,900 for maintenance over 10 years of ownership. That puts the RX much lower than all the other AWD luxury SUVs on our list. Lexus has, for a long time, been a very dependable marque to buy from, and this year, they are the most reliable brand on the market in terms of lowest problems per 100 vehicles (PP100). The 2025 U.S. Dependability Survey reports that Lexus models only suffer from 143 PP100, which is way below the market average of 202 PP100. Once again, they look to be a safe bet in the luxury segment.

10 Underrated Luxury SUVs That Are Definitely Worth Buying

For some home-grown, reliable luxury, we have the 2025 Cadillac XT6. This three-row luxury SUV is available in three trims: the Luxury, the Premium Luxury, and the Sport, and is available with two engine options. If you opt for the Luxury trim, a 2.0-liter turbo-four good for 235 horsepower sits under the hood, and if you aim higher at the Premium Luxury, you benefit from a 3.6-liter V6 that shifts out 310 horsepower. The Cadillac XT6 Luxury is available with front-wheel drive; the Premium Luxury is equipped with front-wheel drive as standard but can be bumped up with all-wheel drive, and the top-end Sport comes with all-wheel drive as standard. You get seven seats as standard; the Premium Luxury features a Bose 14-speaker setup and heated and ventilated seats, while the XT6 Sport adds performance suspension and sportier-looking trim.

The Cadillac XT6 is a short-lived trim, and this year’s MY is the last one; Caddy is going EV with the Vistiq, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t consider one. You get high owner reliability ratings, 10-year ownership costs are reasonably low compared to other AWD SUVs, average yearly maintenance costs could be a lot worse considering its reasonably plush breeding, and there has only been one NHTSA recall. We would suggest noting, though, that, because this year is the end of the line for the XT6, and it was only on the market for five model years, XT6-specific parts are likely to become scarcer later down the line.

Another luxury arm of a reliable Asian brand (Hyundai), Genesis, is currently turning out the 2025 GV80. This sleek, in-your-face full-size luxury SUV is taking on the likes of the X5 and Q7 at their own game with powerful engine options, a sumptuous cabin, and exterior looks that verge on more-luxurious-than-BMW territory. All trims of the Genesis GV80 come equipped with all-wheel drive as standard; there are six trims available (2.5T Standard AWD/2.5T Select AWD/2.5T Advanced AWD/2.5T Prestige AWD/3.5T Advanced AWD/3.5T Prestige AWD); there are two engine options (2.5-liter turbocharged inline-four good for 300 horsepower and 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 that kicks out 375 horsepower), and standard fare includes a 27-inch OLED display, a hands-free liftgate, and self-leveling suspension. It really does offer a lot of luxuries.

If we look at the CarEdge 10-year ownership cost of $9,800, though, we can presume that the annual maintenance costs will be between $900 and $1,000, with costs at the lower end of the spectrum for the first one to five years of ownership. Owners who have left a review on Kelley Blue Book have also echoed the ratings left on J.D. Power, and have given the 2025 GV80 a reliability rating of 4.1 out of 5 and a quality rating of 4.2 out of 5.

Porsche

Like a lot of high-performance German machines, the Porsche Cayenne comes with high maintenance costs. Like Audi and BMW, the parts are generally expensive, and it typically costs a lot for mechanics to work on them. While the RepairPal average annual maintenance bill is $1,231, 10-year ownership costs are likely to be higher than $12,310 as the Cayenne gets older. Typically, Porsche models suffer from fewer problems nearer the beginning of their life compared to a decade later, when bigger problems start to crop up. However, Porsche is currently the most reliable German marque on the market according to the 2025 Vehicle Dependability Study, with a reported 186 PP100. That places them just one position above BMW (189 PP100), but still some way above the market average of 202 PP100. Now looks like a good time to check out a new Porsche Cayenne.

Both trims are expensive, with starting prices sitting at $76,275 and $96,325, respectively. Both BMW X6 models, though, are exceptionally well-equipped, with standard features including all-wheel drive, a curved BMW display that combines 12.3-inch and 14.9-inch screens, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone connectivity, wireless charging, and heated front seats. This can all be upped as well, with ambient lighting, extended leather trim, massaging seats, a HUD, and a Harman Kardon audio rig all available. So, you may be surprised to see that the 2025 BMW X6 is the most reliable all-wheel drive SUV you can buy this year.

That includes a 5 out of 5 for quality and reliability to complement the 89 out of 100 reliability rating on J.D. Power. It seems that this year, the BMW X6 is a powerhouse in all corners; you get intense performance, a sporty and refined cabin, incredible owner-rated reliability scores, and not-so-terrible 10-year maintenance costs considering its caliber and performance potential. To put things into perspective, the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser has been rated 76 out of 100 for reliability on J.D. Power, so things really are being changed up in the SUV market.
