The Africa Twin has been one of the most dependable adventure bikes since its inception. This is down to its uber-reliable platform, a torque-rich engine, and a competitive price by liter-class ADV standards. Now, though, the competition has somewhat cracked this recipe in their own ways. Add to that the general rise in popularity of ADVs, and you have loads of Africa Twin rivals on sale today.
Only a few are deserving alternatives out of these, and this list talks about 10 such examples. As a pre-requisite, most of these are cheaper than the base Africa Twin, while the more premium options serve as Africa Twin Adventure Sports rivals.
Here’s Why This Adventure Bike Is The Most Balanced Choice In 2025
With an adventure bike market that seems to always be growing, we feel that the Africa Twin still represents the most balanced option
CFMoto Ibex 800 E
Price: $10,299
The Ibex 800 is a mind-boggling prospect in the adventure bike world. It is one of the cheapest middleweight bikes out there, yet you get near-class-leading performance and a feature set otherwise unheard of. For example, there’s a massive instrument cluster, rear-facing radar, and a suite of electronic rider aids.
Compared to the Africa Twin, you save almost $4,000 here, but the performance is comparable between the two. The Honda trumps it in terms of off-road abilities, though, as the Ibex is a proper adventure-tourer with a 19-inch front wheel. You won’t be wrong to think of it like a cut-price Africa Twin Adventure Sports alternative.
KTM 790 Adventure
Price: $10,999 (2025)
The 790 Adventure was one of KTM’s most aggressively priced adventure bikes. We say ‘was’ because both the 790 Duke and 790 Adventure were taken off the official website amidst the tariff woes (probably due to their Chinese origin). But you only need a few Google searches to find new underlying examples with KTM dealers. We even saw a couple with $500 discounts.
That will technically save you over $4,000 over the Africa Twin. And you’ll still be getting an equally capable off-road ADV. The 790 mill has proven rather reliable compared to the 890 setup, too. Just make sure you get KTM’s optional electronic package with the money you’re saving.
Suzuki V-Strom 800DE
Price: $11,799
The V-Strom 800DE is Suzuki’s weapon in the middleweight adventure bike segment. It is a great Africa Twin alternative, as you get an equally capable package, but while saving exactly $3,000. Yes, you do get considerably less power here, but it’s still enough for serious fun in the dirt.
You also don’t miss out on features much. Suzuki offers a bi-directional quickshifter, ride modes, wheelie control, traction control, and switchable ABS, all as standard. In addition, things like a low RPM assist should make the DE effortless in tricky terrain.
Aprilia Tuareg 660
Price: $12,499
The Tuareg is an Italian alternative to the Africa Twin. It focuses on hardcore off-roading, evident from its tall suspension, slim design, and a raspy engine. The latter might seem disappointing in person (80 horsepower), but the mill is tuned for loads of grunt throughout the revs rather than all at the top. That means plenty of pep to slide and jump around.
The Tuareg is also a whopping 60 pounds lighter than the Africa Twin. Price-wise, you’re saving over $2,000 by buying the Tuareg 660. That MSRP doesn’t come with any major catches, either (other than peak power). Just make sure you have an Aprilia dealer close by.
10 Adventure Bikes That Nail The Mix Of Comfort, Control, And Endurance
All these versatile adventure bikes offer a unique blend comfort and off-road performance
BMW F 900 GS
Price: $14,395
This right here is BMW’s most off-road-capable adventure bike today. Though hailing from BMW, it undercuts the Africa Twin by $404. Plus, for the money, you also get quality componentry from head to toe. The crown jewel is the 895cc, parallel-twin engine that produces more horsepower than the Africa Twin.
Then, there is the long-travel suspension, paired with a 21-inch front wheel. This, along with the slim design, further helps ensure a curb weight of around 30 pounds less than the Honda. There are some misses, though, such as a quickshifter. In typical BMW fashion, you’ll need to buy the full $1,600 Premium package to unlock these.
Husqvarna Norden 901
Price: $14,899
Amidst the tariff wars and KTM ownership woes, the Norden has received a sizable price hike for MY26. But a quick research shows there are several dealers with the 2025 model, selling for $14,899–just $100 up from the Africa Twin. You can even score a discount and get it for cheaper than the Honda, which is why we’ve included it here.
For the money, the Norden 901 brings you a KTM-sourced 889cc powerhouse with 103 horsepower and 73 pound-feet. This is topped with loads of tech, long-travel suspension, and a standout design. A 21-inch wheel further brings it on par with the Africa Twin.
BMW F 900 GS Adventure
Price: $15,195
While the F 900 GS rivals the Africa Twin, the Adventure rivals the Africa Twin Adventure Sports. This is evident from the bigger fuel tank, a 19-inch wheel, and fully adjustable long-travel suspension. Meanwhile, you get the same 895cc engine with more power than the Africa Twin’s 1,084cc setup.
Now, you might argue that the Adventure Sports has electronic suspension, and you’d be right. But BMW also offers the same as part of its accessory package. Even if you add that, the price of the BMW just matches the Africa Twin Adventure Sports.
Triumph Tiger 900 GT
Price: $15,195
The Tiger lineup starts from the Tiger 660 and goes all the way to the Tiger 1200. Between these is the usually overlooked 900 GT. It’s overlooked because of its somewhat premium MSRP. It still remains a solid alternative to the Africa Twin Adventure Sports, though. The MSRP is over $2,000, even though you get more power, an extra cylinder, better electronics, and Brembo Stylema brakes.
There are some compromises, though. The Tiger neither has electronic suspension nor does it have spoke wheels. So you’ll have to think before taking this on the beaten path during your journey.
The Honda Adventure Bike That Rivals The Yamaha Tenere 700 At A Lower Price
Here’s a way to save $1,000 on the Tenere 700, while getting more power and features
MV Agusta Enduro Veloce
Price: $15,998 (2025)
Before you call us crazy, the price used here is for the 2025 model, and you’ll find plenty of examples with MV dealers. For MY26, the MSRP has risen to $16,998. For the former price, the Enduro Veloce is a scarcely believable prospect. Why? Because you get class-leading performance, the ‘luxury’ tag of an MV, and heaps of quality components all around.
We’re talking fully adjustable Sachs suspension, Brembo Stylema brakes, and Excel spoke wheels. At the same time, the electronic suite is leagues ahead of the competition. Had someone told us an Italian bike like this would undercut a Honda, we’d probably laugh in their face.
Moto Guzzi Stelvio PPF Rider Assistance
Price: $17,390
The Stelvio PPF Rider Assistance model is a proper Africa Twin Adventure Sports rival. It undercuts the Honda by around $400, while offering more power from its transversal V-twin engine with a low-maintenance shaft drive. The real USP, though, is its class-leading radar-assistance package.
It unlocks lane change assist, forward collision warning, rear collision warning, and blind spot detection. You can also get adaptive cruise control as an accessory. You do miss out on electronic suspension and a two-way quickshifter, however. The latter particularly seems like a big miss for an Italian motorcycle with so much tech infused into it.
