Extra X70 Shadow Yacht Is a Super-Size Chase Boat for Your Primary Yacht

A nearly 70-footer is pretty big for a chase boat. Still, though, more megayacht owners find traditional tenders and popular center-console options aren’t well suited to handling their needs. The Extra X70 Shadow yacht is Extra Yachts’ solution, blending features of chase boats and far bigger support vessels for the versatility increasingly in demand.

The 69-foot (21-meter) Extra X70 Shadow yacht is a first for Extra Yachts, and could also be the first of a broader series. Aspects of her silhouette echo the lines of the Italian builder’s other ranges, including the Fast and Triplex series. Lorenzo Berselli of Agon Studio purposely did this to ensure a family feel.

Berselli additionally included capabilities that serve true shadow-yacht duties. For instance, overflow guests can stay aboard in one to two staterooms below decks. Of course, two crew cabins are aboard, too, each with private baths. A combination galley and crew mess takes care of meals for everyone, though if the weather is nice, an outdoor grill is a nice touch. Guests can enjoy meals outside, just aft of the enclosed superstructure, or inside near the wheelhouse, with all-around views making them feel as if they’re immersed in the anchorage.

Ultimately, a support/shadow yacht carries a plethora of watercraft. The Extra X70 Shadow yacht has more than enough space for a mini armada. Her long, open aft deck affords 430 square feet (40 square meters) for toting a wide variety of PWCs, tenders, watertoys, and land craft. For example, Extra Yachts says there’s enough space for a 17-foot (5.2-meter) jet tender alongside two waterbikes and two motorcycles. Another option is a 21-foot (6.5-meter) sailboat and two waterbikes (closeup below). Either way, a stowage compartment lets you tuck away more toys, like SeaBobs, SUPs, foiling surfboards, and more.

Since the Extra X70 Shadow yacht is semi-custom, she also suits buyers who’d rather have more of a day-tripper than a strict support yacht. For instance, you can replace the small-toy locker with a gym. It’s 161 square feet (15 square meters), certainly enough space for a few pieces of equipment. Even the on-deck toy stowage is optional. Some owners may prefer to have a mostly or entirely clear deck for easy setup of loose lounges at anchor. That nicely complements the grill and dining area farther forward, and pairs well with folding bulwarks to add more space.

Extra Yachts further plans to offer the project as a standalone yacht, with up to four staterooms below decks. Regardless, swift performance will come from the hull design and power package. Twin Volvo Pentas promise a cruising speed of 26 knots and maximum speed of 30 knots.
