Jarrett Bay 90 Convertible Yacht Coincides With Yard’s 40th Anniversary

A custom 90-foot (27-meter) sportfishing yacht is a big deal. Having two in build simultaneously is even bigger. The recent start of Hull 69, a Jarrett Bay 90 Convertible yacht, has made it reality. What’s more, it’s happening 40 years after a small shop opened with the intention to build just one boat.

To put the LOA into further perspective, as soon as the first 90-footer (27-meter) touches the water, she’ll become the builder’s second-largest launch. Currently, the 84-foot (25.6-meter) yacht Reel Development holds that distinction. Equally significant, Hull 69 is the builder’s third custom sportfisherman of that size within the past decade.

Although the shipyard isn’t identifying the owner of the newest Jarrett Bay 90 Convertible yacht, he’s an ardent angler. In fact, the owner intends to compete in big-game tournaments, plus ply waters in major fishing destinations around the world. “Building our third 90-foot custom sportfish—while simultaneously constructing two boats of this size—speaks volumes about the trust owners place in our team and our ability to execute at the very highest level,” notes Randy Ramsey, the yard’s founder and owner.

The shipyard intends to release more details about the newest 90 Convertible as construction continues. In the meantime, the construction marks a major milestone for Jarrett Bay Boatworks. This year is its 40th anniversary. Although it’s been headquartered in North Carolina since 1986, the intention was never to become a boatbuilder. In fact, Ramsey, shortly after earning his captain’s license on his 18th birthday, pooled funds with a fellow captain to build a boat for their own fishing charters business. Soon other local captains came calling. Today, its sportfishing yachts crisscross oceans around the world.

“As we look toward our 40th year, projects like Hull 69 reflect both how far we’ve come and where we’re headed,” Ramsey says. “Honoring tradition, while continuing to push boundaries, has always been central to the Jarrett Bay philosophy.”
