Oceania Cruises has placed an order for its fifth Sonata Class ship with Fincantieri shipbuilders, scheduled for delivery in 2037, underscoring global demand for the line’s next-generation fleet. The announcement follows a record launch day for Oceania Sonata in January.
The order of the fifth Sonata Class ship builds on the momentum of Oceania Sonata, expanding opportunities for guests seeking increased space, new accommodation and onboard experience concepts.
“Oceania Sonata will set a new benchmark for spaciousness, artistry and residential comfort,” Jason Montague, chief luxury officer of Oceania Cruises, said in a statement. “The record-setting demand for Oceania Sonata affirms that travelers are seeking choice, connection and authentic experiences. The addition of a fifth Sonata Class ship allows us to provide our guests even more enriching, experiential travel opportunities.”
Debuting in August 2027, the Sonata Class will offer one-third more space, all-new suite categories and reimagined top-of-ship accommodations. The evolution will also introduce an expanded selection of culinary concepts alongside a wider range of suites and staterooms, complemented by enhanced onboard experiences.
Oceania Sonata will also introduce two new culinary venues: La Table par Maîtres Cuisiniers de France — the first restaurant at sea created in collaboration with the esteemed Maîtres Cuisiniers de France — and Nikkei Kitchen, a vibrant concept celebrating the fusion of Peruvian ingredients and refined Japanese techniques, inspired by culinary traditions dating back to the late 19th century.
This continued evolution is shaped by the recent transition to an adults-only experience.
Building on the success of Oceania Sonata, Oceania Arietta, its first sister ship, will open for sale in 2027, carrying forward the same aesthetic, generous space ratios and next generation amenities.
Oceania Sonata’s inaugural season of sailings launching in August 2027 will showcase a sweeping blend of European and Caribbean destinations, from the cultural capitals of Rome (Civitavecchia), Barcelona and Athens (Piraeus), to hidden gems including Paros and Koper, before transitioning westward to a diverse Caribbean roster featuring Tortola and Bermuda, along with Latin American coastal spots such as Manzanillo and Puerto Quetzal, capped by a daylight Panama Canal transit.
