Sarasota may not be known as the billionaire’s paradise that Miami or Palm Beach is, but the Florida city is home to some prime real estate that is giving those other towns a run for their money.
Take this coastal property that just debuted on the market for $26 million, making it the most expensive single-family home currently up for grabs in Sarasota County. The monolithic estate was designed by CMSA Architects and completed only in 2020. The sellers are Arjen de Boer and Jennifer Ponce de León, who snapped up the property for just $2.1 million in 2012, then rebuilt it completely, according to public records.

The expansive main room includes a fireplace-warmed living room, a chef’s kitchen, a bar, and more.

The three-story estate cuts an imposing figure along the Gulf of Mexico: A large motor court anchors the street-facing side, while the back of the home is covered in arched windows and doorways that frame the water views in the near distance. Out here, an elevated pool waterfalls down to lounge chairs arranged on the lush lawn. Nearby, there’s an outdoor lounge with a fireplace and a summer kitchen. Down below, the covered loggia includes a game area with a billiards table and a life-size chessboard, no less.
Inside, the large main room is the heart of the home. Here, an ornate stone fireplace anchors the living room. The chef’s kitchen sits just opposite a more casual bar, and a fanciful lighting fixture hangs over the dining table. Throughout the abode—listed with Joel Schemmel of Douglas Elliman—you’ll find a handful of tucked-away sitting areas and lounges, plus a sweeping family room that includes plenty of space for hanging out.

Sprinkled throughout the almost 9,000 square feet of living space are five bedrooms, five bathrooms, and two powder rooms. The primary suite takes pride of place, offering water views from a private terrace. The accompanying en suite is a luxurious affair, with tons of vanity space and a chandelier-topped soaking tub. Shared amenities are rounded out by a sleek gym and a three-stop elevator.
In recent years, Sarasota has become more of a hot spot for luxury real estate. Homes worth $10 million or more have been popping up more frequently, with buyers looking to relocate from the Northeast, Texas, and even abroad. A couple of such high-end properties include a $19 million build with a 10-car garage and a putting green, and a $31.5 million bayfront pad that took the crown as Sarasota’s most expensive listing early last year.
