The Most Exciting Winter Hotel Openings for Skiers, Sun-Bathers, and Antique Hunters

Why we’re excited: Travelers who find the glitz and glam of Palm Beach and the neon glow of Miami a little overwhelming will appreciate the slower pace here. There’s still some nightlife if you want it (local institution Pete’s Bar, a neighborhood staple since 1933, is a three-minute walk away), but the real story here is the beach. Designed in collaboration between Denver-based Sage Studio and New York’s Islyn Studio, Dune House is a love letter to both vintage surf culture and Floridian midcentury modern. Done up in a palette of sand-hued neutrals and sea glass accents, the rooms, many of which have at least partial ocean views, feel more like a calming refuge. Adding to that tranquility is a spa incorporating ocean minerals and coastal botanicals into its massages, facials, and body rituals.

An expansive living room at Hoback Club

Tuck Fauntelroy

Hoback Club—Jackson, Wyoming

Where it’s located: It’s a ski-in, ski-out property located on Rendezvous Mountain, offering excellent access to the slopes, tram, and gondola in Teton Village.

Why we’re excited: Part hotel, part residences, part private club, Hoback Club offers a panacea to those who prefer their skiing with an added veneer of discretion—there’s no front desk, no mad dash to the ski valet each morning, no fighting for a seat at the après-ski bar. Slopeside access, discretion, and highly personalized service are the names of the game here, where just 25 residences are bookable for stays from 4 nights to 2 weeks. Inventory depends on which owners make their units available in the rental inventory, but residences are by and large decorated in a modern mountain style, with enormous layouts between one and seven bedrooms.

As with any private club, it’s the amenities that set this one apart: a culinary program crafted by Michelin-recognized chef Jean-Louis Dumonet, a robust wellness center complete with European-style hydrotherapy circuit and Himalayan salt relaxation room, as well as massage treatments overseen by Kris Thomasberg, 2022’s silver medalist in the literal World Massage Championships.

The Inn at Hancock—Monadnock, New Hampshire

Where it’s located: Southwestern New Hampshire, a part of the state with exceptional hiking and outdoor activities, but with a dearth of elevated, boutique places to stay.
