Today’s Wordle #1540 Hints And Answer For Saturday, September 6th

Saturday is finally here. Happy weekend, Weekend Wordlers! I hope you have something fun planned. My goal is to finish up some house projects and just clean a bunch. I also have a number of workouts planned. I’ve been working really hard on my fitness goals lately and I’ve been seeing results. I’ve made some gains in the muscles department and I’ve definitely upped my endurance game. I’ve also lost a little bit of weight. On top of that, my napping skills have been most excellent. I’ve napped almost every afternoon for the past couple weeks. Getting in shape is hard work!

No rest for the wicked now. We have a Wordle to solve!

How To Play Wordle

Wordle is a daily word puzzle game where your goal is to guess a hidden five-letter word in six tries or fewer. After each guess, the game gives feedback to help you get closer to the answer:

  • Green: The letter is in the word and in the correct spot.
  • Yellow: The letter is in the word, but in the wrong spot.
  • Gray: The letter is not in the word at all.

Use these clues to narrow down your guesses. Every day brings a new word, and everyone around the world is trying to solve the same puzzle. Some Wordlers also play Competitive Wordle against friends, family, the Wordle Bot or even against me, your humble narrator. See rules for Competitive Wordle toward the end of this post.

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordle score with Wordle Bot right here.

CRANE is one of Wordle Bot’s favorite opening guesses, but today it left me with 128 remaining solutions. Stupid Bot. I tried MOIST next, but that turned up exactly zero yellow or green boxes. With just one green ‘E’ I picked a word that would at least rule out the last remaining vowel: BULGE. Well, my luck turned in a hurry because that was the Wordle!

Competitive Wordle Score

I’ve never had this many ties with the Wordle Bot in a row before. Almost every day this month except for the first, when it took a big lead. We each get 1 point today, bringing our totals up to:

Erik: 3 points

Wordle Bot: 6 points

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word bulge comes from Middle English bulge or bolge, meaning “bag” or “wallet.” This itself comes from Old French bouge (“leather bag, pouch”), from Latin bulga (“leather sack, bag”), likely of Gaulish or Celtic origin.

The sense shifted from “bag” to “rounded swelling” in English during the 15th century, giving us its modern meaning of something that protrudes or swells outward.
